Hello once again everyone and everypony! Celebrating two events today, with the April giveaway here being late, and also very neatly, reaching 100 followers on Tumblr! Thank you all so very much for following me!
So without further preamble, here is our lineup for this month:
I watched Hot Fuzz and In Bruges last week, and now two things are sticking with me. First, British comedies have a bizarrely high level of violence and gore. Second, the phrase “Sea Mine” is inherently amusing to me.
A wonderful episode this week, though personally, I prefer My Little Pony in the original Klingon.
Gallium is a silvery metal with atomic number 31. It’s used in semiconductors and LEDs, but the cool thing about it is its melting point, which is only about 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If you hold a solid gallium crystal in your hand, your body heat will cause it to slowly melt into a silvery metallic puddle. Pour it into a dish, and it freezes back into a solid.
While you probably shouldn’t lick your fingers after playing with it, gallium isn’t toxic and won’t make you crazy like mercury does. And if you get tired of it, you can melt it onto glass and make yourself a mirror.
I’ve been thinking back about Bronycon this weekend among all the other nostalgia I’ve been getting hit with during my weekend of cleaning. Bronycon was not only my first Brony event I ever went to, it was the first convention of any kind I’ve ever attended. It was an amazing weekend and I don’t know how another convention will ever live up to what that weekend was.
I ended up coming home with a bunch of souvenirs from the weekend. I got shirts, pins, hats, shot glasses, cards, and all sorts of other small things. The most important items I got that weekend though were items you couldn’t purchase at any of the booths.
The first was my convention badge. I wasn’t going to get to go to the convention at all at first. I don’t have a lot of money and couldn’t afford traveling, hotel stay, and daily expenses so it looked like I wasn’t going to go. Then almost out of nowhere I was offered a hotel room for the entire duration of the convention by Purple Tinker in return for helping her run her booth. I agreed and made travel plans and ended up making it to the convention. It was an amazing experience Thanks to having a vendor badge I got to meet people and see things the average attendee would never get to see. I got to meet some of the VA’s int he lobby of the hotel and even sacrificed my contact lens solution to John de Lancie that weekend. I’ve had the badge hanging on a wall next to my desk from the day I got home from the con so I always remember that weekend (like I could forget anyway).
The second item is from another person everybody knows, Pixelkitties. Through random tweeting in the months before the convention I found out Pixel and myself live in the same area about 30 miles apart. We both love fine beers and have since helped each other scout for pony swag at the local stores and malls. Her family home brews and I’ve done so experimenting myself. At Bronycon we exchanged beers that we made. I haven’t had the heart to open and enjoy mine yet, I’m saving it for something super special.
These two items are what remind me of what made that weekend so great. I don’t think I can ever forget that weekend or the friends that made that weekend so great.
Hey, it’s a new year, I’m going to try and maybe start using this thing for more than just lurking. Probably will be a lot of reblogs of stuff I like, but there will be some original stuff hopefully maybe.
